Bring Home A Piece of New Hollywood with Authentic Martin Scorsese Movie Memorabilia

New York native Martin Scorsese was born on November 17, 1942 to Sicilian parents in Queens. His life growing up in Little Italy heavily influenced his career as a filmmaker, as evidenced by the obvious inspiration referenced continuously in his films.

Today, he is renowned as one of the most prolific and relevant figures in the New Hollywood era, having churned out critically-acclaimed works since the 60s. Scorsese’s body of work explores a wide range of themes that always seem to hone in on his Catholic identity as an Italian-American. Apart from the usual crime and violence tropes, his works are also heavy on the dual concepts of guilt and redemption, faith and nihilism, and machismo and tribalism.

Scorsese earned his English literature degree in 1964 at New York University, and then went on to NYU’s Tisch School of Fine Arts in 1966 for a master’s degree. The following year, he released his first feature film, Who’s That Knocking at My Door. At the Chicago Film Festival where it was accepted for screening, film critic Roger Ebert appraised it as “a marvelous evocation of American city life, announcing the arrival of an important new director.”

This description couldn’t have been more apt because Scorsese did go on to make more films in the next several years that would end up leaving an undeniable imprint, not only in Hollywood but in world cinema as well.

Mentored by John Cassavetes and surrounded by fellow up and coming peer filmmakers, such as Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Brian de Palma, and Steven Spielberg, Scorsese had access to top-rated collaborations with both cast and crew alike. Among his most recognized collaborations is with actor Robert de Niro, who completed a total of nine films with him, including Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), Casino (1995), and most recently, The Irishman (2019).

Scorsese holds nine Academy Award nominations for Best Director, making him the second most-nominated filmmaker in history. He has brought home more than mere nominations, however, having received numerous awards from prestigious award-giving bodies, including the Academy Award, BAFTA, Cannes Film Festival, Directors Guild of America Awards, and Golden Globe Awards, among others.
