Are you into pulp fiction memorabilia? If so, you probably don’t need more reasons to love the Tarantino-directed screenplay, but here are 20 anyways!
1. America Wasn’t the Home of Release
Pulp Fiction may have received love in the States but it was released in Japan, Slovakia, and South Korea first!
- You’ll find “F” Bombs Galore
There were 265 “F” words throughout the film. As high as that number is, it doesn’t beat Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs at 269!
- It Was Nominated Seven Times at the Academy Awards
Seven Oscar nominations are no joke! It won Best Original Screenplay and was in the running for other top categories such as Best Picture too!
- Butch Wasn’t Meant to Be as Old as He Was
Bruce Willis did a great job as Butch, but the initial vision saw the character being much younger. However, the part was tweaked, and the rest is history!
- Tarantino’s Love of Vintage Board Games Shows
Tarantino loves board games, and the film reflects this. You can see The Game of Life, Operation, and The Game of Life in the production.
6. Tarantino Didn’t Do It All Alone
While Tarantino deserves his credit, he had help as the story is credited to himself and Roger Avery.
- Jules’ Bible Is off the Mark
As Jules, Samuel L. Jackson quotes Ezekiel 25:17 a couple of times. While such a passage does exist, it doesn’t say what he claims it does.
- John Travolta Could’ve Had Greater Commercial Success in 1994
No doubt that 1994 was a great year for Travolta. However, he had turned down the role of Forrest Gump, which would beat Pulp Fiction for the honor of Best Picture.
- Lance May Have Had a Bathroom Appointment
Frute Brute cereal, which Lance was eating was discontinued in 1982, meaning by 1994, he would’ve been eating long-expired cereal.
- Kathy Griffin Is Herself
Kathy Griffin, while only having a small role in the movie, wasn’t playing a character. She simply played herself.
11. Uma Thurman Was Edgy About Dancing with John Travolta
Characters Vincent and Mia had to dance together to enter the dance contest in the film. Uma was edgy about dancing with Travolta, who told her to “shut up and twist.”
- Most of the Movie Was Written in Europe
Most of Pulp Fiction was written when Tarantino went on vacation to Amsterdam for three months.
- Vincent and Jules May Not Have Been Who You Know
Travolta and Jackson are synonymous with their characters, but this may not have been the case. Tarantino initially considered Tim Roth for Vincent and Gary Oldman as Jules.
- There May Have Been a Different Mia Wallace
Thurman also wasn’t Tarantino’s first choice. That honor goes to Isabella Rossellini, Michelle Pfeiffer, and even Daryl Hannah.
- Butch’s Cab Driver Was Perfect Casting
Angela Jones, the actor who plays Butch’s exotic cab driver, had her part written based on a character she performed in Curdled, a short film.
16. The Honda Serves Its TimE
The Honda Civic Butch drives in the movie was used in Kill Bill: Volume 2 and by Pam Grier as Jackie Brown.
- You Could’ve Seen Ellen DeGeneres in the Film
Ellen tried out for the role of Jody, but Rosanna Arquette ultimately got it.
- Dance Contest Winners
While the audience is made to believe that Mia and Vincent won the contest, a radio bulletin later says the trophy was stolen.
- The Case’s Contents
Tarantino never gave an answer, instead saying it was whatever the fans wanted it to be that was in the case.
- The Band-aid
Ving Rhames had a scar on the back of his neck, which is why his character, Marsellus, has a band-aid on his neck.
