Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Maroon 5 currently consists of Adam Levine (lead vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboard and rhythm guitar), Matt Flynn (drums), PJ Morton (keyboard), Mickey Madden (bassist), and Sam Farrar (multi-instrumentalist). It was in 1994 when the original members Levine, Carmichael, Madden, and Ryan Dusik (former drummer) formed the band (then named Kara’s Flowers) in 1994, while they were still in high school.
After their self-released album, We Like the Digging?, Maroon 5 signed with Reprise Records and released the album The Fourth World in 1997. The album didn’t quite succeed, so the record label dropped them while the members focused on their college education. It was 2001 when Maroon 5 came back to the music scene, adopting a different direction and adding Valentine as a guitarist. In June 2002, the band signed with Octane records, releasing their debut album Songs About Jane. With their singles She Will be Loved, Harder to Breathe, and This Love, the album rose to #6 on the Billboard 200 chart and quickly became quadruple platinum in 2005. It was also during that year that they won Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards. The next year, Dusick left the band after he suffered severe shoulder and wrist injuries from the band’s continuous touring. He was then replaced by Matt Flynn.
Maroon 5’s discography includes Songs About Jane (2002), Live: Friday the 13th (2005), It Won’t Be Soon Before Long (2007), Hands All Over (2010), Overexposed (2012), V (2014), and Red Pill Blues (2017). They’ve collaborated with different artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Christina Aguilera, Kendrick Lemar, and Cardi B, among others.
Maroon 5 has received numerous awards throughout their career. They have sold over 120 million records, making them one of the world’s most best-selling artists.
