1. Stranger Things Is Somewhat Based on a True Story
Before production, the show was titled “Montauk,” and took inspiration from The Montauk Project, a United States military program. The experiments did not operate exactly like the Hawkins lab or have an Upside Down, but they attempted to track mind control and time travel within children.
2. Multiple Networks Rejected the Duffer Brothers More than 15 Times
Stranger Things fans have fallen in love with the story, the setting, and their favorite characters over the show’s run on Netflix. However, the show was rejected between 15 and 20 times before Netflix decided to pick it up!
3. Influence of Indiana Jones
It’s not strange to know the Stranger Things universe takes place in the 80s, but so many of the characters are inspired by popular culture elements from the time, including Jim Hopper.
Much of his character is inspired by the great archaeologist himself. You may be able to make the comparison from Stranger Things toys or posters that Hopper usually wears an Indiana Jones-esque hat.
4. Complicated Casting Process
The Duffer Brothers auditioned over 900 boys and 300 girls before finding their ideal Mike and his friends. Even the role of Eleven was difficult. Though she utters only a couple of words in the first season, Millie Bobby Brown’s auditions consisted of a lot of crying, the actress noted.
5. Millie Bobby Brown Shaved Her Head
Many actors may utilize a bald cap for a shaved head look in their roles. However, Brown committed to the role and shaved her hair off for season one of Stranger Things. She used a wig later in season four.
6. The Demogorgon Is More than Just a Suit
Any Stranger Things fan or enthusiast of Stranger Things merchandise could probably recognize the Demogorgon. This nightmare-inducing monster from the Upside Down uses more than 20 motors to create its creep effects, and it’s all stored in a backpack inside the suit.

Self-proclaimed Stranger Things super fans could probably list many things about the supernatural hit show. However, there’s probably more to know as the Duffer Brothers wrote a 30-page document explaining the Upside Down and its features.
8. Show Promo with Baskin Robbins
Scoops Ahoy is a central setting in season three, inspiring even more Stranger Things merch. Baskin Robbins sold ice cream quarts with the fictional shop’s logo. Some fans have kept the sponsorship ice cream as Stranger Things collectibles.

It’s strange to think a core cast member could be so terrified of scary movies given the plot of the show. However, Sadie Sink, the actress who plays Max, explained her dislike for horror.

Steve was never supposed to be a major player in the cast of Stranger Things. Instead, he was meant to be killed off at the end of the first season. Joe Keery, the actor, was so likable that the character stayed.
