Collecting Bruce Springsteen Memorabilia: A Guide on the Iconic Albums

Bruce Springsteen became an icon of American rock and roll, enjoying a career that spans six decades. Considered one of the most prominent acts, Bruce Springsteen sold over 71 million albums in the United States and more than 140 million records worldwide. It’s no wonder that Bruce Springsteen memorabilia sell for thousands of dollars, with fans and collectors looking for signed vinyl records, guitars, drumhead, and more.

From Asbury Park to Western Stars: A Journey through Bruce Springsteen’s Albums

Born in Freehold, New Jersey, in 1949, Bruce Springsteen had a rebellious and artistic side, which led him to complete an apprenticeship in bar bands before becoming a solo singer-songwriter in 1972 for Columbia Records.

Inspired by Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, his first two albums released in 1973, “Greetings from Asbury Park” and “The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle,” demonstrated his vocal range but downplayed his legendary rock and roll guitar skills.

By 1975, Bruce Springsteen transformed into a rock and roller, releasing his third album, “Born to Run,” which became an instant hit, landing him on the covers of Time and Newsweek. Three years after his rock and roll debut, Bruce Springsteen released “Darkness on the Edge of Town” in 1978, an album that lived up to its title lyrically and musically.

Bruce Springsteen received international recognition in 1980 when he and the band released “The River.” However, by then, the E Street Band was more like a gang than a musical unit, following the stardom of its leader. Springsteen and African American saxophonist Clarence Clemons’s duo was iconic, and the intense live shows, coupled with his refusal to follow his record company, gave him power and popularity.

The next album “Nebraska” released in 1982, was a toned-down unusual interlude, but it was two years after that release, Bruce Springsteen became a renowned rock and roller of the 80s with “Born in the USA” (1984) and the 18-month world tour that followed. Born in the USA was an iconic album that had seven hit singles and a song that sympathized with the Vietnam War veterans.

In 1989, the E Street Band broke up, but Springsteen continued his work as a solo singer-songwriter. By 1994, he won a Grammy Award and Academy Award for the “Streets of Philadelphia,” and in 1995, Bruce Springsteen released “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” an album that portrayed Springsteen’s views on America’s economy and spirituality.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band got back together in 1999 after Springsteen got inducted into the Hall of Fame. After only a handful of songs, in September 2001, Springsteen performed “My City of Ruins,” a piece about Ashbury Park following the 9/11 attacks. His tone against the government and the wars started becoming more pronounced in the upcoming songs, albums, especially “The Rising” (2002), and tours.

In 2004, Bruce Springsteen joined hands with Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on the Vote for Change tour, voicing his concerns over the Bush administration’s policies. His lyrics in “Devils and Dust” (2005) and “Magic” (2007) spoke explicitly about the war and the government’s invasion of civil liberties.

By 2009, Bruce Springsteen released “Working on a Dream,” an album with lyrics focusing on love and life and how both are fleeting. The album demonstrated vocal harmonies and a broader musical palette. Springsteen and the band performed at the 2009 Super Bowl XLIII, making it the most televised sports event in American history, with over 98.7 million viewers.

After losing Clemons, many thought it was the end of Bruce Springsteen, but little did they know that he had a couple of great albums left in him. Introducing new horns, mariachi set, fiddles, reenergized versions of old songs, Celtic pipes, and more, Springsteen released “Wrecking Ball” (2012), “High Hopes” (2014), “Born to Run” (2016), “Western Stars” (2019), “Only the Strong Survive” (2022) albums. The Covid-19 pandemic and his deteriorating health affected his latest tours.
