Throughout his career, he has become known for his high-energy live performances and commitment to philanthropic causes. Here is a look at the life and career of Kenny Chesney.

Early Life

Born on March 26, 1968, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Kenneth Arnold Chesney was raised by his parents, David Chesney, an elementary school teacher, and Karen Chandler, a hairstylist. His younger sister is named Jennifer Chandler.

At first, he aspired to be a star athlete. Unfortunately, because of his height (5’8”), he gave up that dream. Kenny was bitten by the music bug when he got his first guitar as a Christmas present in 1986. That was when he started writing songs.

Pursuing a Music Career

In 1989, Chesney released his own album, selling 1000 copies and using the proceeds to purchase a new guitar.

Not long after that, in 1990, Kenny Chesney graduated from East Tennessee State University and subsequently moved to Nashville to pursue his career in music.

After performing at various local clubs, Clay Bradley, the head of writer relations at Broadcast Music, noticed him.

Bradley referred him to Troy Tomlinson of Opryland Music Group. He impressed Tomlinson in the audition and walked away with a songwriter’s contract.

Established Career

In 1993, the country singer was discovered by Capricorn Records at a songwriters’ showcase. Chesney released his debut album, In My Wildest Dreams, with the same record label in 1994.

His first platinum-selling album, Everywhere We Go, was released in 1999. Kenny’s career flourished, and by September 2000, he released his compilation album, Greatest Hits. By then, he had established himself as a star with millions of fans worldwide. To further promote the album, he embarked on his first musical tour.

In 2004, his career sky-rocketed some more, as he received his first career Grammy nomination. 2006 saw him release his debut live album called Live Those Songs Again. It featured 15 songs from his live performances. That same year, he went on The Road and The Radio Tour.

Chesney has been the proud recipient of 12 Country Music Association Awards, including a record-breaking four Entertainer of the Year titles. He also has 11 Academy Country Music Awards, including four consecutive Entertainer of the Year awards (2005-2008). Kenny has also been nominated for six Grammy Awards.
